- Scrap metal is salvaged metal that can be recycled and is one of the largest US exports.
- By recycling metals, the amount of ore drilling throughout the world is greatly reduced.
- Scrap metal yards deal with customers who are in the trades that come across metal on a daily basis.
- Many scrap metal yards buy metals from the public; Belton Metal Company works exclusively
within the industrial industry.
Positive Material Identification (PMI)
Fast, accurate scrap metal sorting is fundamental to a scrap recycling operation. Advances in scrap sorting technology have revolutionized the way that major scrap metal recyclers and processors conduct their business. In fact, 95% of the world's largest metals recyclers use Thermo Scientific Niton XRF analyzers. Belton Metal has incorporated this cutting edge technology into their business.
These instruments were engineered from the ground up to provide the industry with faster sorting and more accurate results; analyzing nearly every element of interest in virtually all types of metal alloys, from trace levels to commercially pure metals, and everything in between.
Scrap Metal Explained:
Bare Bright Copper
Unalloyed copper solids; minimum 96% copper, and free of excessively leaded, tinned, soldered copper scrap, brasses and bronzes, excessive oil content, iron and non-metallics, copper tubing with other than copper connections or with sediment; copper wire from burning, containing insulation; hair wire; or burnt wire which is brittle.
Red Brass Turnings
Irony Auto Rads
Mixed Brass Turnings
Bare 6061 Ext
UBC's - Baled
UBC's - Unbaled
Old Sheet (up to 5%)
Old Cast (up to 5%)
Advantages to aluminum radiators include lighter weight, simplified recycling (it is all one material), reparability (it can be welded), durability, environmental friendliness and lower tooling costs. They are not subject to cracking at high temperatures and as the joints are brazed, the bonds are stronger than the solder used in copper-brass radiators.
